Born in Devon I always needed to be outdoors, growing up with Dartmoor being close and as a child completing Ten Tors which is an annual challenge organised by the British Army starting in the 1960s for teenagers of the southwest to hike to checkpoints on 10 specific Tors.
Growing up Fishing and Shooting was second nature and it wasn’t until I moved to Surrey that I realised that shooting with a Camera was my choice and not one that was expected like growing up in the country.
I started my Photography journey in 2017 my mum had terminal cancer and part of her process was creating a memory box for my brother and I, she showed me mine and apologised as there were very few photographs of me as a baby or small child compared to my brother, she told me to make sure I make more memories of my children than she did, so the next day I bought my first DSLR.
Photography for me is eco-therapy I have lost 3 people in recent years to mental health struggles and I need to look after mine, I always know when I need to go out, sometimes it is not about a focus to take a specific animal or landscape but just the sense of being out.
I have made some incredible friends doing photography and most of those I see regularly, Photography for me is about challenging myself, learning from the best people around you, sharing ideas locations, but all this is underpinned by making sure the wildlife is the priority and its habitat is not disturbed or jepordised, we have such beautiful wildlife in the UK so we must protect it at all cost.
In 2020 I decided to upgrade not only all my gear to Canon but to invest in myself so I joined the Epsom Camera Club this has challenged me as a photographer and given me feedback on being better, again sharing ideas and genres and techniques with like minded people.
I hope that you enjoy browsing through my work,
Robin
